Life is too Short, Create a Positive Impact!
A year ago, I started to initiate a non-formal school foundation after receiving a grant from the Indonesian Ministry of Education.
Years and years ago, I dreamt of creating one.
The questions that I often ask myself and people also do ask me are…
Do I really have the privilege to focus more on society while in reality nowadays people tend to focus more on their personal wealth?
The answer is no and yes.
Yes because I got most of the support from my parents. I was also built and raised in an environment where I can truly be myself and explore the things that I am passionate about.
No, because I am actually building everything inside and beside me with my own effort & the help of others of course. With that being said, most of the privilege I have right now is not something that I was born with. It is something that I strive for in my life. What’s in my brain, what’s in my wallet, and what’s in my heart, are the things I have built since my young age. No matter how much privilege you’ve got since you were born, if you do not have the ability and competency to utilize it then I guarantee it will go nothing. It is all depends on how you choose the path that is in front of you, the way you perceive the present time, and the way you learn from your past.
Long-short story, after a year of building the non-formal school foundation. In the heart of Indonesia, where access to formal education may seem like a privilege for many, Amor Matris Indonesia stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity. This non-formal school foundation provides a second chance for individuals from all walks of life to pursue education, equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need to build brighter futures.
Currently, we have almost 20 teachers and more than 100 students in the age range of 18–21 years old and more than 100 students in the age 22 and above. They come from many backgrounds.
Middle-School Graduates Aspiring for High School Certificates
Among the diverse student body are individuals who, due to life circumstances, couldn’t complete their formal education. Some are middle-school graduates who once had dreams of further education but life led them in different directions — whether into the world of politics, early careers, or family responsibilities. Now, they are back, aiming to earn their high school equivalency through the C Package examination program. At Amor Matris, these individuals receive guidance and mentorship to help them pass this critical examination, allowing them to pursue further opportunities in life.
Youth from Rural Areas
In rural Indonesia, the barriers to education can be formidable. Young people often drop out of school to work and support their families, but deep down, they long for the chance to continue their studies. Amor Matris Indonesia recognizes this need and offers a pathway for these students to pick up where they left off. The school provides flexible schedules, enabling them to balance education with work, helping them not only gain a diploma but also realize their true potential.
Inspiring the Next Generation
One of the most remarkable groups in Amor Matris’ classrooms is the elderly. These are individuals who, due to various circumstances in the past, were unable to finish their education. But for them, it’s not just about getting a diploma — it’s about proving to themselves, their families, and their grandchildren that learning has no age limit. Many of these senior students come to Amor Matris to be a source of inspiration for their grandchildren, demonstrating that education is a lifelong journey and that it is never too late to pursue one’s dreams.
After a year of focusing on the school operations on A, B, and C Package equivalency examinations. Now, in 2024 we are happy to share that we started a new sub-business model in the form of a school academy for formal-school students from Elementary School, Middle School, and High School and we called it “Amor Matris Academy”
As the foundation grows, so too does its impact. Amor Matris Indonesia continues to expand its outreach, offering more people the opportunity to pursue education regardless of their background or past. We started the initiative to strengthen our impact not only in rural area but also in the middle of the city by creating an academy for formal school students.
Amor Matris Academy is a prestigious educational institution, proudly holding an “A” grade accreditation from the National Accreditation Institution of Indonesia. The name “Amor Matris”, derived from Latin, translates to “the love of a mother,” symbolizing the academy’s deep commitment to nurturing and inspiring students with the same care and dedication a mother provides.
At Amor Matris Academy, students are not only equipped with knowledge but are also motivated through powerful inspiration and unconditional support. This mission is driven by the implementation of two world-class curricula: the Kurikulum Merdeka, from the Indonesian Ministry of Education, and the internationally renowned Cambridge Curriculum. These programs work together to provide students with a comprehensive education that prepares them for success in both local and global arenas.
